Quality – if heavy – stem let down slightly by poor machining

Superstar regularly impresses us with its great value, high-quality products – so we were keen to try the Razor CNC DH stem, which is aimed firmly at the downhill and dirt jump market.

Machined from 6082-T6 alloy, the 45mm stem has a 5mm rise, knee-friendly rounded edges, a low stack height and a wide clamping area to reduce bar flex. Our gunmetal version looked great and, with another nine other finishes available, there's plenty of scope for making your cockpit stand out from the herd.

The 6mm bolts used throughout make it easy to keep things clamped up nice and tight, and we couldn’t feel any flex, even with a wide bar. The sheer amount of material that keeps the stem so stiff means it weighs in at a hefty 254g though.

The alignment between the faceplate and the body of our test stem was fractionally off, leaving us concerned that the clamping force on the bar might be a little uneven. We gave it a little rub down to reduce the sharp edges and had no problems throughout the test period though.
