Neat design but not exactly essential

This compact stand eliminates the need to lean bikes against cars, walls or on the ground at race meetings.

Packing down very neatly, it should comfortably fit in most kit bags or rack packs. Setting up proved a bit tricky at first but quickly became second nature once you remember the rear axle slots into the cut-outs on the upper section, and the tab at the base is used to prevent the wheel slipping sideways. >Tyre size is a deciding factor but the design seems surprisingly stable. Crudely, the wider the tyre, the more upright the bike will remain. A 1.4 Mtb slick was fine but 700x23 training tyres saw the machine slouch, and this might limit the appeal to racers. >While neat, there's usually a suitable wall or similar object to lean a bike against, although this might find favour with tourists or those who regularly ride to race meetings and can't resist a gadget. >
