Planning permission has just been granted for a large development south of Birmingham that's looking to combine retail with outdoor activities, including cycling.

IntoOutdoors aims to combine shops, cafes and restaurants with "60 holiday lodges in a lakeside setting, two fishing lakes, cycle routes, outdoor exhibition and activity areas".

The proposed centre wants to give outdoor enthusiasts the chance to 'try before they buy'. It would occupy 125 acres and have a 1.5 mile frontage onto the River Avon.

The site is located at the junction of the A44 and the A46 trunk roads near Evesham, and hopefully ground will be broken early this year, with 2014 the target completion date.

The developers behind the project, Eagle One, are actively seeking a major cycling tenant for the site's flagship store. A recent press release on the development promised new transport links to nearby Evesham, including cycle lanes and water taxis.

A PR spokesperson for Eagle One also said there would be "a strong focus on cycling, with projected cycle routes, triathlon events and BMX areas".

The existing site currently features a 40,000 sq ft garden centre, with 20,000 sq ft of existing retail units, attracting 1.24 million visits per annum.
