Not the grippiest, but these wide bodied flats perform well at a decent price

These CNC-machined alloy flats from Wellgo come in at a fraction of the price of DMR’s market leading Vault pedals. At 378g, the weight is lower than the Vaults too, with DMR’s pedals weighing 400g a pair.

The 104mm wide body gives a robust and supportive platform, while 10 flat-topped pins provide dependable grip, though our feet skidded around the pedal when the rides got rapid and rocky.

Despite having a sealed bearing, the pedals have a grease point enabling you to inject more lubrication should you feel that the bearings need it, though our test pair spun true throughout.

We’d have liked to see some spare pins included with the pedals and there is no manufacturer’s option for running longer or hollow pins to increase the grip. That said, there are many alternatives for fitting aftermarket pins. The pedals are totally flat – which may or may not suit your preference – though for our money concave pedals do a better job of keeping your feet exactly where you want them.

But if you’re looking for a lightweight, solid performer at a decent price, the Wellgo B144s take some beating.
