The last day of racing at the track world championships in Manchester saw competition in the women's keirin and scratch race, the five-event men's omnium, and the men's 1000m time trial.

For the first time, things didn't go the host nation's way with American Jennie Reed scoring an upset win in the keirin to defeat Britain's golden girl Victoria Pendleton and Germany's Christin Muche.

The Netherlands boosted their gold medal tally by two on the final day with Eleonora Van Dijk winning the women's scratch race from Yumari Gonzalez (Cuba) and Belinda Goss (Australia), and Teun Mulder winning the men's 1000m time trial in 1:01.332, beating French pair Michaël d'Almeida (1:01.514) and François Pervis (1:01.579).

The New Zealand team finally tasted gold when Hayden Godfrey won the men's omnium, a five event race that tests all of a track rider's skills and fitness. Godfrey won the scratch race, placed third in the 200m flying time trial, was fourth in the 3000m pursuit and 1000m time trial, and finished seventh in the points race. Second overall in the omnium went to Australian Leigh Howard with Aliaksandr Lisouski (Belarus) finishing third.

Stephen McMahon was there to catch the action.
