The GoPro Hero 7 is here and it looks set to take the world of action cameras by storm. Initially announced by U.S. megastore B&H and picked up by a number of news sites including Business Wire, the Hero 7 is now live on GoPro's own website and it comes in three variants, the Hero 7 Black, Hero 7 Silver and Hero 7 White.

The Black is GoPro's latest and greatest camera, the one that professionals and amateurs who need the highest quality video will want. All variants are available to pre-order direct from GoPro and are expected to be shipping in the near future.

The Hero 7 Black is the top of the range, and it introduces a new HyperSmooth stabilisation mode, which is likely to be particularly relevant to BikeRadar readers. Its 12MP sensor will record 4K video at 60fps, 2.7K video at 120fps, and 1080p at an impressive 240fps. It's the only Hero 7 that has a removable battery. It is also designed to work with external microphones, an essential feature for video professionals and anyone who takes their filming seriously.

Other highlights include Protune, which allows manual control of a range of video capture settings, a portrait video mode geared towards social media (yes, really!) and as you'd expect, full waterproofing down to a depth of 33 feet (10 metres) without the need to use a housing.

A 2in touchscreen is your primary interface for changing settings.

The official list of highlights is as follows:

  • Record 4K video at 60fps, 2.7K at 120fps , and 1080p at 240fps
  • Capture 12MP Photos at up to 30fps
  • HyperSmooth Video Stabilization
