The new Look 765 Optimum is an endurance road bike with clearance for 34mm tyres, a threaded bottom bracket shell and mudguard mounts.

The bike is available in five different builds, starting at €3,790 / $4,300 for a Shimano Ultegra R8000 build and topping out at €5,390 / $6,400 for a Shimano 105 Di2 build.

The bike sits alongside the recently-released 765 Optimum+, which is pitched as more of an all-road option, with clearance for larger tyres (42mm with 700c wheels) and more relaxed geometry.

Endurance-specific frame

The new 765 Optimum frameset uses Look’s '3D wave' carbon tubes. This sees the seatstays and chainstays flattened, which is said to increase compliance.

The frameset is also said to be constructed from an “endurance-specific” carbon layup. This is, once again, claimed to dampen vibrations, improving comfort.

Previous versions of the 765 Optimum used the brand’s Carboflax technology. This saw flax fibres woven into the carbon layup to reduce vibrations. It isn’t clear if this technology carries over to the new model.

A frameset is claimed to weigh 1,400g in an unspecified spec and size.

The new Optimum 765 has clearance for tyres up to 34mm wide and also features recessed mudguard mounts. The bike is only compatible with Look's own mudguards, which will be available in early 2023.

Cables and hoses are internally-routed, passing through a channel on the underside of the stem and handlebars before routing through the upper headset bearing. The bike uses a threaded T47 bottom bracket shell.
