State Bicycle Company's 6061 Black Label All-Road is an entry-level alloy gravel bike with a 1×11 SRAM Apex drivetrain, 650b or 700c wheel options and a decidedly affordable $1,399.99 price tag.
Built around a pleasingly simple alloy frame with a matching carbon fork, the bike looks super-versatile, with generous tyre clearances and mounts for mudguards, pannier racks and bikepacking luggage.
The bike is available in one build option, with a SRAM Apex rear derailleur and shifters. This is matched with an in-house 1× 40t crankset and Tektro mechanical disc brakes.
The bike’s 11-42t cassette will give sub-1:1 gearing, which will be ample for the majority of gravel riding.
The tubeless-ready wheelset is fitted with Vittoria Terreno gravel tyres. It's also tubeless-ready, so a conversion to a tubeless setup would be a quick and affordable upgrade (and would be something we’d look to do straight out of the box to turn this into a proper gravel bike setup).
The bike is available with either 650b (650×47) or 700c (700×38) wheel options. There is also the option to order both wheelsets with the bike for a $349.99 upcharge.
Notably, if you opt for this, the second wheelset also includes tyres, a cassette, rotors and tubes, meaning you can swap wheelsets without needing to buy more gear. That’s a whole lot of kit for a very affordable price and is something we’d love to see more manufacturers offer.
The standard fork features a mudguard mount at the dropouts, a mid-fork eyelet for mounting pannier or porteur-style racks, and internal cable routing.
State is also offering the Monster Fork, a separate fork option with an additional triple-boss fork leg mounts and dynamo light mounting options for a $179.99 upgrade. This fork will also be available for the 4130 All-road.
Finally, the bike is available as a frameset for $679.99, which looks a good deal.
We really like the overall look of this frameset and think it could be a great platform to build a versatile, budget gravel bike. That it’s available in a handsome copper finish is the icing on the cake.
