Isaac del Toro had a dream start to the 2026 Tour de France, winning his first ever road stage at the Tour. Tadej Pogačar may have gifted him the win, but it’s still an impressive showing for the 22-year-old Mexican rider.
Del Toro was riding the Colnago V5Rs lightweight road bike, rather than the aero Y1Rs that’s Pogačar‘s preferred ride and is favoured by the rest of the UAE Team Emirates-XRG team.
That includes Brandon McNulty, who did a massive turn on the front leading into the final ascent of the Montjuïc climb, when UAE climber Adam Yates took over – also on the Y1Rs.
Isaac Del Toro's raw carbon Colnago V5Rs

Ahead of the 2026 Grand Départ, we weighed the raw carbon Dark Series Y1Rs that Pogačar rode to second place on Stage 2 at 7.25kg.
We haven’t weighed del Toro’s V5Rs, but we did weigh Pogačar‘s painted V5Rs at the 2025 Tour, when it came in just under the UCI weight limit at 6.735kg.

Del Toro’s stage-winning V5Rs has the raw carbon Dark Series finish, although with silver logos. This would have shaved yet more weight off the frameset, so his mechanics may have been forced to add ballast to ensure it hit the 6.8kg figure.

The V5Rs was launched by Colnago in April 2025 as an update to its Tour-winning V4Rs that’s claimed to be 9 watts more aero at 50km/h. At the same time, Colnago’s testing showed the V5Rs to be 16 watts less aero than the Y1Rs.

Did del Toro choose the V5Rs for its lower weight of almost half a kilo and a potential advantage on the finishing circuit? In fact, del Toro too was riding the Y1Rs earlier in the stage, but a mechanical with 60km to ride saw him swap to the V5Rs. Choosing the lighter bike may have been a tactical decision when choosing which spare bike to ride for the hilly finishing circuit.
A slow bike swap saw del Toro more than two minutes back from the leaders, so clearly the less aero V5Rs didn’t hold him back from rejoining the lead group as it entered the Montjuïc circuit.
Del Toro's bike spec

The $950 SES Aero Pro cockpit for del Toro’s V5Rs is supplied by ENVE and the bike is equipped with ENVE SES 4.5 Pro wheels with Continental Grand Prix 5000 TT TR tyres.

While Pogačar‘s bike gets lightweight chainrings from Carbon-Ti, complete with his TP logo, del Toro’s Shimano Dura-Ace power meter crankset has standard 54/40 chainrings. He gets a range of other Carbon-Ti swap-out components though, including his derailleur hanger and even the bolts used to secure the components to the frame.

And while Pogačar prefers Fizik’s Adaptive 3D-printed saddles, del Toro sits on a Fizik Vento Antares 00 saddle with standard padding – lighter but perhaps less comfortable when the 2026 Tour de France still has more than 3,000km to go.
