Q. I don't know if it's because of the dry weather or because I'm riding a lot more recently, but my grips keep coming loose and it's doing my head in. How do I stop them spinning round and pulling off?

A. It doesn't sound much, but as you're no doubt finding out, twisty grips are a nightmare in terms of loss of control and crash potential. Your first fix is to stick your current grips internally. We've heard of dabs of nail varnish, paint or hairspray working really well. The old motorbike trick is to use fuse wire or similar to wrap round the end of the grips and twist tight (make sure that you tuck the wire ends in safely though, for very obvious reasons). Bolting in an end plug can help to stop them spinning and stops them falling off, although this definitelyisn't a wise option on unreinforced carbon bars.
Alternatively, get some new Lock-On grips - the new ODI X-treme and X- Trainer patterns are ace, and once locked in place won't budge. They cost about 16 quid.
