Our review
An easy to use light with a great added safety feature

Pros:

Easy to use; small in size; brake light feature

Cons:

Not the most powerful

The Buster RL 150 from Sigma is a compact rear light that is said to fit easily to any bike.

It features a maximum power output of 150 lumens, a flexible silicone mount and a speed-sensing brake light.

It’s simple to use, bright enough to keep you visible and won’t need overly frequent charging.

The Sigma Buster RL 150 is operated by a single power button.

One click reveals the battery level displayed by an LED light. A double click turns the light on and subsequent clicks move between the five available modes.

This includes two solid light and three flashing modes. The brightest is the ‘day flash’ mode at the full 150 lumens.

The stand-out feature of this light is the speed-sensing brake light mode, which is permanently activated. A built-in accelerometer detects when you are slowing down and temporarily increases the level of light.

Its small size and low weight, at 38g, makes it easy to take away with you, should you want to. The flexible silicone mount keeps it securely in position on the bike.

It has a sturdy construction and the IPX4 rating should keep it functioning in the rain and in the face of tyre splashback.

Installation is quick and easy, with a wedged design on the inside of the light to ensure it sits at the correct angle.

There should be no issue fitting it to most seatposts, but the design doesn’t allow for much adjustment.

I tested this light across a combination of road and gravel riding. The brightness of the light provided good visibility, with the day-flashing mode producing enough light for use during the day.

On the road, I felt a pereceived safety improvement when using this light. That said, the same is likely true of all decent rear bike lights.

There's a good level of battery life, with the light living up to its claimed four hours during testing.

However, after three hours, the light defaulted to a lower power output due to an automatic battery saver mode kicking in.

I was sceptical of the brake warning feature at first, but after some time using the light, I was impressed.

I didn’t expect this brake light to be as exact as one connected directly to the use of the brake – it’s not – but it is surprisingly accurate.

It’s hard to say if other road users were reactive to the brake light, but it’s a great feature and added to my sense of safety when braking towards a junction.

The Buster RL 150 is a good, solid choice for a compact rear light.

It performs well, doesn't over-complicate matters and the brake light is a great additional feature to help keep you safe.
