Avenir Right and Left Rear Pannier review

The Avenirs have something of a deluxe look and feel. They're packed with features too. There's a pocket on the lid and two side pockets with smooth-running, weatherproof zips, and a reflective LED tab.

Feature-packed panniers that are best suited for on-road use

The Avenirs have something of a deluxe look and feel. They're packed with features too. There's a pocket on the lid and two side pockets with smooth-running, weatherproof zips, and a reflective LED tab.

Elsewhere, there's reflective piping on the lid. Stowed in the front pocket is a waterproof cape - unfortunately, it's black and has no reflectors. There's a cinch strap at the base but it doesn't do too much, and handy elasticated top straps. As with many panniers of this price, the Avenirs are let down by a basic mounting system. The open-ended hooks fit two diameters - 10mm and narrower - but they don't hold on very well when riding over rough ground. The lower stabilising bar is basic but adjustable. Clips can take two settings for 10mm tubes and narrower.
