Won't win prizes for looks, but does exactly what it's supposed to – extremely well

We’ve just experienced the wettest winter on record, and most of us are sick and tired of having to wash soggy and mud-caked kit after every ride. Designed and made in the UK, this new rear mudguard from Mudhugger could give you and your washing machine a bit of a break. We've already reviewed the Mudhugger front mudguard – this is the rear counterpart.

There are versions for all three wheel sizes, and once fitted, the Mudhugger’s close-fitting wraparound design does a brilliant job of keeping your rear end dry and muck free. Plus, because it mounts to your bike’s seatstays instead of the seatpost, there’s no issue with running a dropper post.

Despite sitting close to the rear tyre the guard is stiff enough that we haven’t had any problems with buzz, even after landing from drops and jumps. But the plastic isn’t so brittle that it won’t survive the odd crash. It’s not the prettiest of additions to your bike, but if you can live with the looks it’s some of the best mud protection out there.
