Montane Velocity waterproof jacket review£129.99

Good performing, lightweight shell

BikeRadar score3.5/5

A well performing nylon shell, the Velocity uses Entrant DT for effective waterproofing. We also found it reasonably breathable on the bike. Given Montane’s record in producing lightweight tops, it’s no surprise that this weighs just 270g and packs into its own stuffsack.

But it still manages to include waterproof rear and front pockets (the front one has a hole for your MP3 cable), over 3m of reflective material, a full-length waterproof zip, a fleece collar and Velcro cuffs. In short, pretty much everything you could want from a waterproof but with no excess weight.

Simon has been cycling for as long as he can remember, and more seriously since his time at university in the Dark Ages (the 1980s). This has taken in time trialling, duathlon and triathlon and he has toured extensively in Asia and Australasia, including riding solo 2900km from Cairns to Melbourne. He now mainly rides as a long-distance commuter and leisure/fitness rider. He has been testing bikes and working for Cycling Plus in various capacities for nearly 20 years.
