X-Bionic Fennec bib short review£235.00

High price but performance to match

BikeRadar score4/5

The X-Bionics are different from anything we’ve tried before. The body is knitted polyester and the weave changes to create flexible sections on the outer and front thighs, with more supportive tighter weaves on the rest of the thighs and the tops of the glutes.

The fit is amazingly comfortable and they’re also top performers. The pad is stitched into an opening in the fabric and left exposed. This lowers friction and reduces heat.

They also wick moisture better than any other shorts, but it’s quite easy to catch and pull the fabric. Oh, and there’s that price.

Simon has been cycling for as long as he can remember, and more seriously since his time at university in the Dark Ages (the 1980s). This has taken in time trialling, duathlon and triathlon and he has toured extensively in Asia and Australasia, including riding solo 2900km from Cairns to Melbourne. He now mainly rides as a long-distance commuter and leisure/fitness rider. He has been testing bikes and working for Cycling Plus in various capacities for nearly 20 years.
