Gore Xenon Sonic bib short review£149.99

Oozing quality

BikeRadar score4/5

Oozing quality, the Sonic’s construction and fit are at Assos level. The large, breathable side panels have more elastic resistance than similar ones on other shorts too. The minimal pad is highly sculpted, with different depths and densities all positioned perfectly for supreme comfort.

The bib section is close fitting and brilliantly formed too, and material is removed where it isn’t needed, creating channels that improve airflow. The light mesh of the bib is also highly breathable. We’ve found it difficult to fault the Xenons – aside from the high price.

Simon has been cycling for as long as he can remember, and more seriously since his time at university in the Dark Ages (the 1980s). This has taken in time trialling, duathlon and triathlon and he has toured extensively in Asia and Australasia, including riding solo 2900km from Cairns to Melbourne. He now mainly rides as a long-distance commuter and leisure/fitness rider. He has been testing bikes and working for Cycling Plus in various capacities for nearly 20 years.
