Gorewear Endure Gore-Tex Pants

The Gorewear Endure Gore-Tex Pants feature the brand's latest lightweight Paclite Plus material, to give full waterproofing and breathability in an easily packable format.

A cycling-specific cut, pocket and soft waistband offer decent fit and features, while the material impresses in use.

I found the fit baggy, so some riders may prefer a slimmer cut, but these pants are great to slip over trousers on the commute and perform well on the trail too.

A women’s version is also available.

Gore’s Paclite Plus, which is a 2.5-layer material, is used here.

Gore doesn’t go into detail about the fabric's waterproofing and breathability figures, instead claiming it’s ‘durably waterproof’, ‘very breathable’ and ‘totally windproof'. My experience backs up these claims.

The pants have a reinforced seat panel, which is useful in such a high-wear area.

There’s also an adjustable waistband with a drawcord to cinch it in.

Lower down, there’s a zipped leg opening, to just below the articulated knee, with an exterior storm flap that's secured with poppers.

Two poppers at the bottom enable you to pull the pants tighter at the ankle.

Reflective details and a zipped pocket complete the package.

Gorewear Endure Gore-Tex Pants performance

I’m a fan of the Paclite Plus material. In my experience, it’s both breathable and waterproof to high levels, as long as you clean and care for it properly.

I’ve worn these trousers for wet commutes and filthy mountain bike rides, and have found them to do a good job of keeping water out, while not getting too sweaty.

The thin fabric can get a little clammy when next to damp skin and I preferred the feel of it while wearing bib shorts and knee pads than with bare skin.

The cut is generous, fitting well over regular work trousers, and with the long leg zip and stretchy waist, they’re easy to get on and off.

The volume also helps fit the trousers over less bulky knee pads.

However, when worn over Lycra bibs, there was a touch too much material flapping around my thighs.

They’re best suited to trail-riding use – for anything more ‘enduro’, I’d look for a more rugged-feeling, thicker material so I could be confident the ravages of the trail would be shrugged off.

The waistband has a series of small silicone gripper dots around it, which helps keep the trousers in place even when it gets muddy. The drawcord needs to be pulled fairly tight to ensure a secure fit, though.

The single pocket on the thigh is well placed – I could fit my fairly large phone in its case – and it doesn’t hamper pedalling.

Gorewear Endure Gore-Tex Pants bottom line

As do-it-all waterproof trousers, Gore has done a good job with the Endure pants. The fabric is top-notch and the cut is versatile enough that it’ll work when cycling to work and on the trail.

They're perhaps a little baggy in fit for use over Lycra, but if you need trousers to do it all, these are a good option.
