Shimano Dura-Ace Brakes review

The legendary Dura-Ace brakes were for a long time the standard against which others were judged, but anyone in the know would tell you that it was more to do with the choice of brake pad compound.

Effective but expensive

The legendary Dura-Ace brakes were for a long time the standard against which others were judged, but anyone in the know would tell you that it was more to do with the choice of brake pad compound than the design of the callipers themselves.

Most recent changes to this top-of-the-range calliper were to lighter, more rigid arms and captive cable adjusters. Like SRAM brakes, the quick release gained indents so that the brake arms can be separated incrementally for rapid wheel changes in a road race. While they lack the outright power of the Mavics, they have great balance.
