These new 94mm BCD cranks from the famous French manufacturer are intended for Mtb use but are also well suited to meandering, laden tourists who seldom pedal downhill or who wish to dispense with the weight and complication of a triple chainset.
The 29/44 tooth chainrings are effective for hilly terrain and while they last a bit longer than Shimano chainrings they don't shift quite as smoothly under pressure. The Oxale has two chainrings but has a wider 'q factor' so they feel more like a triple.
As with most three-piece cranksets a bit of trial and error is needed to find the right bottom bracket length. We settled on a 108mm ISIS axle, though some tourers with wide chainstays may need the 113mm version to provide sufficient gap for the inner chainring to clear the frame. A key-release system means that no special tools are required to remove the cranks.
