Mavic DeeMax review

Mavic DeeMax review

These big downhill-specific wheels have been race icons for years and they're still up there with the best. The thick-set rims are UST tubeless compatible for low-pressure, high-traction running and they're super strong and stiff for great cornering.

Our review
Instantly recognisable and still the top tubeless downhill race choice

These big downhill-specific wheels have been race icons for years and they're still up there with the best. The thick-set rims are UST tubeless compatible for low-pressure, high-traction running and they're super strong and stiff for great cornering. The straight-pull spokes are also far tougher and tighter than you'd expect from only 28 of them.

The hubs are the only slight weak link - although a bit of thread lock stops the adaptors falling out, the front bearings wear quite fast. The rear hub also has a reputation for occasionally eating its freehub at the wrong moment. A full range of rear axles is available though (including a 150mm version) and this wheelset is still lusted after by downhill racers, despite the cost.
