Trek has launched the Wahoo Path kids' bike, described as a premium hybrid with adult componentry to help bridge the gap to adult bikes.

The Wahoo Path is said to have a lighter overall weight, thanks to its frame material and components, as well as a Microshift 1x8-speed drivetrain.

The new kids’ bike sits below the Trek Wahoo Trail launched last summer.

Available in three sizes, Trek says it's suitable for children from 6 to 13 years and beyond.

Trek says the Wahoo Path will be available globally, but pricing and availability are to be confirmed.

The Wahoo Path frame is constructed from Trek’s Alpha Silver Aluminium, said to keep the bike lightweight and manageable for kids.

The top tube is dropped compared to its predecessor, with a secondary strut connecting the top tube to the seat tube.

Unlike the Wahoo Trail, which uses a carbon fork and disc brakes, the Wahoo Path has an alloy fork and V-brakes.

The bike uses Microshift Acolyte SL-M6285 trigger shifters, paired with an 8-speed 1x drivetrain

The bike comes with a kickstand and can fit mudguards

The maximum recommended tyre size is 2.2in with mudguards or 2.4in without. The minimum-size tyre Trek recommends is 2in.

The bikes use Trek’s proprietary ThruSkew 5mm quick-release axles. These have a small nut on the threaded insert of the dropout that keeps the quick-release locked in place to prevent the wheel from falling out.

Trek specs a square tapered, threaded 68mm bottom bracket for easy maintenance.

The Wahoo Path is not compatible with stabilisers.

The Wahoo Path will be suitable for children from 6 years old. It will be offered in 20, 24 and 26in wheel sizes, so you can find the right size bike for your child. Each size will be available in three colours.

Trek says the Wahoo Path 20 will suit kids from 114 to 132cm, the Wahoo Path 24 from 130 to 150cm and the Wahoo Path 26 from 142 to 157cm in height.
