Volunteer trail builders Chase Trails have reached the semi-finals of the UK's National Lottery Awards. They're now appealing for the help of the mountain bike community to get through to the next round.

The volunteer group have been designing, building and maintaining mountain bike trails on Cannock Chase, Staffordshire, in partnership with the Forestry Commission, for the past eight years. Their handiwork is enjoyed by thousands of riders each week.

They've been shortlisted for the best sports project award, where they're up against nine rival groups. A public vote will decide which three organisations go through to the next round. The overall winners will receive £2,000 of extra funding, as well as gaining useful publicity for their cause.

Voting for the semi-final is open until noon on Monday 20 June, with the final round running from 5-23 September. You can vote online here, or by calling 0844 836 9721. Chase Trails hold trail building days every Sunday. They're always on the lookout for new volunteers; the next Big Build Day is set for Sunday 3 July.
