Pivot Cycles Mach 429SL - first look

Revamped 29er sheds weight, gains Di2 compatibility

We’ve often praised Pivot’s frames for their exceptional stiffness, but that rigidity has come with a slight weight penalty over many of its competitors. The Tempe, Arizona based company has cleaved weight from one of its most popular models, the Mach 429, while also making it compatible with the latest in electronic drivetrain technology.

Pivot claims that the latest version of the Mach 429, now known as the Mach 429SL, shed half pound from its carbon chassis. The claimed weight for this 100mm-travel 29er frame is 5.3lb (2.4kg) with shock.

In addition to losing weight, the 429SL has been updated with the internally routed port system Pivot introduced this summer on the Mach 4 Carbon, making it compatible with XTR Di2 as well as with internally routed dropper seatposts. Frame geometry and features such as the Press-Fit 92 bottom bracket and molded downtube protector carry over from previous Mach 429 Carbon.
