Following the successful launch of their first cleated shoes last year, sticky rubber aficionados FiveTen have been working on two more SPD-compatible options, along with a load of new flat-pedal footwear.
The Maltese Falcon looks similar to the Minnaar and Hellcat but weighs less and has a grippier Stealth S1 sole that's easier to walk in. Aimed at all-mountain/trail riders, it has a wipe-clean Action Leather upper and a reinforced heel. RRP is £95 and it should be in shops soon.
The Cyclone is essentially a high-top version of the clipless-compatible Hellcat, giving a bit more ankle protection and support for downhill use. The prototype version pictured here has a new lighter, sole but it's unclear whether this will make it onto production models. RRP will be £105.
New for flat-pedal users is the Baron, only available in red (red Baron, geddit?). Positioned somewhere between FiveTen's Freerider and heavier-duty Impact models, it's likely to find favour with both downhillers and trail riders. Features include a reinforced heel and toebox, plus a stiffer sole than the Freerider. The Baron is available now for £85.
Speaking of the Freerider, two new colour options are available for 2011 – White Tiger and limited edition Galaxy Purple. The Karver downhill shoe now comes in Smokey Blue and an Ash Grey women's version, and there's also a Low version of the urban/casual Spitfire shoe, which reminds us of the classic Dunlop Green Flash tennis shoe.
Also of potential interest to urban commuting types is the new Scofflaw (not pictured) – it means a person who flouts the law – which is due in spring 2012, and FiveTen are also developing a trailbuilding/hiking model named after UCI track builder Didi Schneider.
