An action group has been formed to facilitate the creation of the UK’s first purpose-built mountain bike chairlift, as well as a new bike park at Innerleithen in the Scottish Borders.

The Action on the Innerleithen Mechanical Uplift (AIMUp) group is made up of mountain bikers, local businesses and residents of the local communities who have already met with Jeremy Purvis MSP, Scottish Enterprise and Scottish Borders Council, and are “encouraged by the support that has been voiced for the aims and objectives.”

At a recent public meeting, it was decided that in order to push the chairlift plans further, the current bus-based uplift needs to be used to its full potential; the range of riding in the area needs to be improved; links with the town need to be created and a base station with cafés, shops and coaching facilities need to be established too.

AIMUp will be showcasing their plans to the local community during the ceremony to turn on Innerleithen’s Christmas lights on December 12th. To get involved and to support the group head to the ‘Support the Innerleithen Uplift’ Facebook page.
