A world-class four-cross track is set to open in Afan Forest Park, South Wales next month – and you could ride the new track and dirt jumps as part of a dig weekend on 8-9 May.
That's when the final touches will be made to the 4X track, which has been built by UCI World Cup course builder Phil Saxena – the man behind some of the best mountain bike courses in the world, including the cross-country course at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and the Cwmcarn downhill.
The new track is 500 metres long, has 11 corners, one corkscrew, a massive rock garden and a pro section with a pair of huge jumps (8-10m gaps), and should take about a minute to get down. Afan’s lateest addition has been built adjacent to the Bryn Bettws Lodge Mountain Bike Centre and the Wall trail – perfect for a day of sessioning or a mid-ride play for trail riders.
Paul Massey, from Afan MTB centre, said: “Bring along your own rake or borrow your dad's and help put the finishing touches to this world-class track. You dig in the mornings of each day and ride all afternoon. There'll be a free uplift for your bike, and camping is free for the weekend.”
