BikeRadar bargains: cheap road wheels bonanza — UK deals

Pick up a new set of wheels from our selection of delectable hoops

A new set of wheels is always a safe bet if you want to refresh your bike, and there’s plenty on offer… From lightweight climbing wheels to deep section aero numbers, there’ll be something to suit your needs. We’ve put together our pick of the budget options.

Shimano RS11 wheelset — £179.99 £124.99

The RS11 wheelset is a durable budget option

While the RS11 wheelset is a budget option, it’s also a long-time favourite spare-stock item of any decent bike shop, as it guarantees solid wheels at a killer price. While the wheels won’t win any beauty contests soon, rolling on Shimano’s cup and cone bearing they’ll definitely provide reliability and faff-free riding for years to come.

Shimano Dura Ace R9100 wheelset — £999.99 £699.99

The Shimno R9100 wheelsets are often seen in the pro peloton

Shimano Dura Ace wheels still feature extensively in the pro peloton, so they’re undoubtedly solid performers. And while they are relatively conservative in the width department (by modern standards), they should be a sprightly option weighing in at just under 1400g. They feature a bonded carbon aluminium construction using an alloy braking track and a low-profile carbon rim.

If you’re after something a little more aero, Wiggle currently has a great offer on a deeper section version of the wheels.

DT Swiss PR1400 Dicut OXiC wheelset — £819.90 £659.99

DT Swiss produces a very high-end alloy wheelset in the form of the PR1400
DT Swiss

It’s not all about carbon rims — there are plenty of great aluminium offerings out there that can even outperform cheaper carbon. We got on well with this wheelset giving it 4.5 stars.

DT Swiss makes very well-engineered products and its OXiC wheelset features a hard ceramic brake track coating for the ultimate in performance, reliability and durability. The low weight and tubeless ready features are nothing to sniff at either.

Easton EC90 SL Disc wheelset — £2399.99 £999.99

Easton EC90 SL wheels are carbon, aero and fast

If it has to be carbon, then specialists Easton can help. We liked this wheelset when we reviewed it, as it displayed a good mix of reliability, durability, steering accuracy, weight and aerodynamics. The only thing that put us off was the weight, but you can pick them up now with a stupendous 58% discount!

Reynolds ATR2 wheelset — £1299.99 £1019.99

Reynolds ATR wheelsets are designed for off-road use

We’d be remiss not include a gravel wheelset in our selection and the Reynolds ATR2 is one of the best. We reviewed the previous incarnation and it’s been updated and is available in both a 650b and 700c flavour.

It’s a wheelset squarely aimed at high volume rubber with a 21mm internal width and has no aerodynamic pretensions — instead it’s focused on ride quality off the beaten path.
