The perfect place for youngsters to learn new skills

At last year’s event, the Islabike’s Children’s Skills School was the ideal opportunity for the little ones to ride one of the extensive ranges of kids’ bikes from the specialist firm under the watchful eye of the CycleActive Skills Team. It was the perfect place for youngsters to gain confidence and learn new skills on two wheels.

We’re proud to announce the return in 2010 of the Kids Skills School in association with Cycle Active and Islabikes. Here are the details:

30-minute classes will start every hour and half past the hour. Course times:

  • Saturday 10th July 9.30am – 5pm
  • Sunday 11th July 9.30am – 4pm

The CycleActive skills instructors will be working with young riders of all ages from 4 upwards at BikeRadar Live, in their unique junior skills sessions.

The coaching is completely free and you can simply turn up, sign in and watch the progress as they tackle all kinds of new and exciting challenges under the watchful eyes of Chris Ford and his team.

The junior skills area will combine a junior pump track with a whole range of skills features, all designed to bring out the best in young riders. “It’s great to see young riders discover their potential as we show them a few key things that help their riding skills to move forwards. Whether it’s something basic like feeling confident to stand up or move their bodyweight, or a more advanced technique like learning to pump and flow over obstacles, we have the expertise to break it down for anyone to learn,” explained Chris Ford, the founder and Director of CycleActive.

Each session lasts for approximately 25 minutes and with a team of instructors on site they can cater for a wide range of ages and abilities. You can also turn up without a bike as there will be a whole fleet of superb junior bikes, provided by Islabikes, there for youngsters to try out.

Parents who are borrowing a bike from Islabikes should arrive 15 minutes before the session starts to get kids sized up.

You can sign-up for all CycleActive run classes at the main CycleActive tent located next to the junior skills area.

BikeRadar Live takes place on the weekend of 10-11 July at Brands Hatch in Kent. Some 8,500 riders and their families came to the inaugural event in 2009 and this year's event promises to be even more fun with more riders, more pros, more features and more races.
