Boris Bike Race launched at London Nocturne
Forget the Brompton world champs, the new commuter race on the city block is night-time Boris Bike racing
Transport for London has announced a partnership with London Nocturne to hold a Boris Bike race on Saturday 7 June around Smithfield Market.
Places are limited to just 30. The London Nocturne draws up to 15,000 people to watch the pro crit race around the famous meat market.
The Boris Bike Race will be held over five laps of the nocturne circuit.
Boris Johnson, the London mayor, said: “Exactly a month before the Tour de France rolls into our great city, the London Nocturne will kick-start another sensational summer of cycling in the capital. Londoners shouldn’t miss the chance to see Penny Farthings, folding bikes and even Barclays Cycle Hire bikes race around historic Smithfield Market. This free event has grown every year since 2007 and I’m sure the 2014 London Nocturne will be the best yet.”
To be in with a chance of securing a place, potential riders should look out for information on the Transport for London Facebook page today and throughout next week.
