Are you a British Cycling super fan? Are you first in the internet queue for velodrome tickets and lap up the news about stars such as Laura Trott, Geraint Thomas and Rachel Atherton?

Well, the governing body has launched an official membership for passionate fans of British Cycling’s crop of athletes.

The £20-a-year package gives members access to the best of the GB cycling team. Perks include a supporter pack, first dibs on race tickets, regular chances to watch the team train and exclusive access to competitions. There are discounts on travel packages and previews of interviews with the stars of the squad.

The package includes many of the other benefits of BC Ride membership such as shops discount but excludes a key advantage, third party insurance and legal advice for cyclists involved in a crash.

Six-time Olympic gold medallist Sir Chris Hoy said: "Racing and winning in front of a home crowd is the greatest experience that any athlete could ever dream of. British fans are among the most passionate in the world and cycling is a sport that we’re really excelling at. The launch of British Cycling Fan is an acknowledgement that the sport is now mainstream and in an incredibly exciting place. Ahead of another great summer I’d encourage as many fans as possible to join us and show their support for our incredible sport.”

Coinciding with the launch of the official fan package, the national governing body has also launched a social competition to find the UK’s best fan. The prize is a day behind the scenes at the Tour of Britain and a piece of memorabilia from the race. Use the hashtag #cyclingfan and explain why you think you’re Team GB Cycling’s best fan.
