The British Human Power Club are set to provide one of the highlights of BikeRadar Live 2010 when they race around the Brands Hatch motor circuit on a variety of weird and wacky two-wheelers.

With vehicles ranging from simple recumbents to hand-crafted streamlined speed machines, they’ll take over the track on Saturday 10 July from 7.30-9pm.

Adrian Setter, the club’s competition secretary, said: "It's a rare treat to race on such an impressive and historic circuit as Brands Hatch, and I hope other visitors will be fascinated to see the variety of human powered vehicles that will be on show.

“The machines racing will range from fast road-going machines, through no-compromise unfaired circuit racers, right up to the ultimate, hand-crafted, fully faired streamliners.”

According to Setter, overall honours are likely to be taken by one of the "Beano" carbon-Kevlar streamliners, which are expected to lap at average speeds of over 30mph. There’s the potential of a close race between veteran, and two-time world HPV champion, Steve "Slasher" Slade and the youthful Lee Wakefield.

The hot favourite in the unfaired class is Mike Burrows – designer of the bike Chris Boardman road to Olympic glory in Barcelona, and originator of the 'compact road' concept who, according to Setter, “at the age of 67 continues to defy the effects of advancing years by building faster and yet faster bikes”.
