The annual Bupa Around the Bay is Australia’s largest one-day participation cycle event. With 15,000 people expected to participate in either 20, 50, 100, 135, 210 or 250km distance options, there is something for all abilities. And with 1,500 attendees from interstate or overseas, it’s not just the locals that believe in this event.
In recent years, the 250km is what has given the Around the Bay its esteemed reputation, with an average finishing time of 11.5 hours, it’s one for the brave.
The Around the Bay event supports the Smith Family charity. Last year the event raised $1,125,970, with funds used to support more than 2,160 primary school children living in disadvantage. The fundraising goal this year raises to $1.275 million.
