Italian groupset specialists Campagnolo have developed a new top-of-the-range crankset, dubbed Over-Torque, which they claim is five percent stiffer and 54g lighter than its predecessor, the Ultra-Torque.

Campagnolo say the new Over-Torque crankset optimises rigidity by putting as much space between bearings as possible and using a chunky 30mm titanium spindle. The one-piece spindle replaces the two-piece axle in the Ultra-Torque, first released in 2007.

The Vicenza-based company say the new crankset was a response to trends from frame manufacturers who are increasingly favouring oversized bottom brackets.

The Over-Torque will be available in two forms – the Comp Ultra 11-speed, weighing a relatively feathery 563g (claimed), and the Comp 1 11-speed, weighing a claimed 605g.

Both versions are available with kits for most BB standard frames, including PF30, BB30, BB386 and frames requiring English threaded outboard cups. The cranksets come in 53/39, 52/39, 52/36 and 50/34 configurations in the three standard crank arm lengths of 170mm, 172.5mm and 175mm.

Details of UK and US dollar pricing and availability will be released shortly. For more information see www.campagnolo.com.
