Canyon launched their first cyclocross bike – the disc brake Inflite AL – at Eurobike 2013. The direct to consumer brand will also be shipping the frame in a winter training build, with slick tyres and mudguards.

The cyclocross version of the Inflite will be offered in two builds from October 2013. The lower level Inflite AL 8.0 (set to cost around £1,200) is fitted with Shimano 105 gears and 28mm Mavic Crossride 29 wheels. The Inflite AL 9.0 is decked uses a Shimano Ultegra group and DT Swiss X1900 Spline 29 wheels and will cost about £1,500.

Both models are fitted with nobbly, cyclocross-ready Schwalbe Racing Ralph Evolution tyres, 160mm discs coupled with Shimano BR-CX77 calipers and Canyon’s vibration damping – and expensive – two-piece VCLS 2.0 seatpost.

The winter trainer, the Inflite AL 8.0S, is a variant of the 105-equipped bike and is fitted with mudguards and robust 28mm Continental 4-Season tyres. It will also come in at about £1,200.

The aluminium frame that underpins all three models features internal cable routing and rolled tubing in an asymmetric design. The seat tube is ovalised at the bottom bracket end to give more material volume and improve frame stiffness. Meanwhile, the walls of the seatstays vary in thickness to accommodate extra stress caused by forces from the disc brakes.
