Ceramic bearing and component manufacturer CeramicSpeed has acquired Friction Facts, a bicycle component test lab.

Friction Facts has developed test equipment and protocols to evaluate friction losses in bearings, chains, jockey wheels and lubricants. The Boulder, Colorado-based lab will continue to offer its efficiency reports for purchase on www.friction-facts.com.

CeramicSpeed has made a name for itself by developing ceramic bearings and oversized jockey wheels to improve drivetrain efficiency. The Danish company’s products command astronomical prices and have found favor with many ProTour teams, including Astana, Etixx-Quick-Stepp, Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka, and Tinkoff.

“By bringing Friction Facts into the team, CeramicSpeed expands its in-house development and test lab, which comes as a natural fit with our goals and mission. The lab will dramatically streamline our development cycle by allowing us to test the efficiency of prototypes immediately after they are pulled from the 3D printers,” said Martin Banke, managing director of CeramicSpeed.
