The 6th Annual Conquer the Coast cycling event will take place on September 25th and 26th with nearly 1,500 riders in Corpus Christi, Texas.

The event offers three levels of rides: a 65-mile route that takes riders from Whataburger Field, over the Harbor Bridge, through Portland, Ingleside, Aransas Pass, Port Aransas, Padre Island and the Corpus Christi Bayfront, as well as a 20-mile ride that takes riders down the scenic Corpus Christi Bayfront.

The longer route also features a timed ride, deemed the "Toughest 18 miles in Texas", respectively. The last mile of the time trial, and unarguably the hardest, is a time trial within a time trial, known as the Danny Kloster Memorial Mile. Of the approximately 1,500 riders expected for the 2009 Conquer the Coast, only 40 percent of the riders are coming from the Coastal Bend area.

"I'm excited about participating in Conquer the Coast again this year," said Sean Murphy, 2009 Event Chair and vice president and general manager of Andrew's Distributing. "It's a great community event and an excellent opportunity to showcase Corpus Christi and the Coastal Bend."

The criterium will return this year with races being held both Friday and Saturday nights in the parking lots of Whataburger Field. Specific race times, maps and other details can be found on the event website below.

Proceeds generated by the ride benefit the Texas A&M Corpus Christi Tarpon Foundation, a non-profit foundation dedicated to supporting scholarships for talented male and female student athletes, as well as the general operating budget of the Islander Athletic Department providing equipment, travel budgets and academic counseling.

A registration party is scheduled to be held at Brewster's Street Ice House on Thursday, August 27th from 5 to 7 p.m.
