Cranktip pedals are new on the scene, with a unique dual swing-arm design that produces a few novel benefits, the company claims. By effectively adding leverage on the downstroke, the Cranktip pedal increase power and efficiency with a notable reduction in heart rate, the company claims. BikeRadar saw these pedals at the Tour Down Under in Australia, home to the new pedal company.
The system moves the foot 12mm lower and 16mm further forward than a standard pedal, the company states. As a result, the user will have to adjust their saddle accordingly.
Former pro rider Henk Vogels is now Cranktip CEO, and is in Australia speaking with WorldTour teams about the design.
The pedals certainly aren't light. We weighed them at 780g. Compare that to, say, a pair of Shimano Dura-Ace pedals at 250g. And they aren't cheap; retail is set at US$499.
Beyond the claimed increase in leverage and thus power, Cranktip says the dual-swingarm design lessens fatigue as it can "directly dampen and dissipate irregular forces".
