Scottish street riding star and YouTube sensation Danny MacAskill has been shortlisted for the prestigious Laureus sports awards, along with the likes of Lance Armstrong, Jenson Button, Roger Federer and Valentino Rossi.

Danny Mac has been nominated in the Action Sportsperson of the Year category, where he faces stiff competition from three world champions – surfers Mick Fanning and Stephanie Gilmore, and windsurfer Antoine Albeau – plus Dew Tour-winning skateboarder Chris Cole and big wave surfer Greg Long.

MacAskill said: ”It’s crazy being nominated for the Laureus Awards. I mean, there are many amazing other athletes that won the biggest competitions in their sport, and I was just doing what I love – riding my bike and a bit of filming."

Lance Armstrong has been nominated for the Comeback of the Year award, where he'll be up against Kim Clijsters (Tennis), Jessica Ennis (Athletics), Brett Favre (American Football), Blanka Vlasic (Athletics) and Tom Watson (Golf).

Armstrong returned to professional cycling in 2009 at the age of 37 following a three and a half year break. He still managed to finish third in the Tour de France, behind his winning teammate Alberto Contador and Andy Schleck, and looks set for more this year.

The winners will be decided by a jury made up of 46 sportsmen and women, and announced at a televised awards ceremony in Abu Dhabi on 10 March.
