In some sad news for downhill riders, the event organiser has announced that round five of the popular Dragon Downhill, which was due to take place on the 11-12 October, has been cancelled. The event will not continue in 2009.

Jason Carpenter, the event’s organiser, cited many difficulties bringing about the South Wales-based series’ end, but particularly highlighted the troubles he had with a member of the Welsh Forestry Commission.

In a post on the Dragon Downhill website he said, “I’ve done my best to comply with all FC regs regarding uplift and event permissions, but whatever I do is never enough and I’ve decided I will be much happier not dealing with someone who I think is unreasonable. So, the Dragon DH series is over as we know it.

“I may run some other events in the future, but they won’t be on FC land in South Wales until the person I cannot get on with is no longer there,” he added.

The news comes as a blow to the many riders and supporters of the series, which included sponsors such as Mojo suspension and Mynath Apparel

Jason has said that the results of the first four rounds will stand for deciding this year’s series winners. Riders who signed up for the cancelled round should send him an email to confirm the events they entered and their return address so he can quickly organise refunds.
