Gore's Fusion jacket is always our first choice when the weather turns bad, so we were excited to hear they were bringing out some 3/4-length mountain bike shorts to match.

The jacket combines a perfect fit with excellent protection from the elements and class-leading breathability, and initial impressions suggest the shorts are just as good.

Made from the same Gore Windstopper fabric, the SOs are water-repellent rather than waterproof but should still shrug off the worst of the rain.

With ventilation zips on the front of both legs, a zipped side pocket, and Velcro tabs at the waist and bottom of both legs to ensure a good fit, these shorts aren't short on features.

RRP for the camouflage version pictured is £104.99. They're also available in black for £99.99 – which will put them in direct competition with Endura's popular Venturi eVent 3/4-lengths. Gore say the camo costs more because they use genuine military fabric.

Gore Bike Wear's Alex Metcalfe told us: "It's an item we've been working on for years but didn't want to bring to the market until we had the right fabric in terms of weight and warmth."

Look out for a review in an upcoming issue of Mountain Biking UK magazine.
