Pedals, handlebars and saddles are the three main rider contact points on the bicycle, and Ritchey is introducing two new products for 2010, the 233g WCS Echelon road pedals and 255g Pro Paradigm mountain pedals.
The US$190 WCS Echelon pedals have bodies made of 6061 alloy and a cromoly spindle with (adjustable) retention claw made of carbon-resin composite.
The distance between the axle and body platform on the WCS Echelons is extremely low, which -- according to Ritchey -- creates a highly efficient pedaling arc, especially in the top of the pedal stroke, almost eliminating the traditional "dead zone." The pedal's light-weight cleat provides a wide platform for greater support and foot comfort the older versions.
New off-road clipless pedals from Ritchey, the Pro Paradigms
The US$150 Pro Paradigm mountain pedals replace the previous Pro V4 mountain pedals, and have an improved bearing/axle system allowing for adjustability and service.
Sporting a new anodised red body, the pedals have a low-profile body-to-axle design for efficient pedaling, according to Ritchey. The dual-sided design has increased mud clearance and a stainless steel retention claw for easy entry and exit over the life of the pedal.
