Ex-Tour de France winner Floyd Landis is back. No, not so much on the bike but up high in the mountains of Colorado with a marijuana retail business called Floyd's of Leadville. The company is selling a CBD Hemp Oil Daily Supplement that claims a lot of benefits for athletes.

It's not about getting high. Cannabidiol (commonly referred to as CBD oil) does not contain the psychoactive ingredient THC. Recent research has shown CBD oil can promote recovery and is said to be effective in minimizing inflammation after exercise. CBD oil advocates also claim reduced muscle strain and dehydration. The oil itself is reported to be all-natural, non-addictive and perfectly legal everywhere. The company cautions that it is not necessarily WADA approved.

How'd Floyd get here?

Floyd Landis was one of Lance Armstrong's top domestiques during his Tour de France winning streak from 2002 to 2004. He moved onto the Phonak team and won the 2006 Tour, only to have the title stripped amid doping allegations. At first, Landis denied and fought the accusations, but then eventually admitted to taking performance-enhancing drugs.

After Landis's fall from grace in 2006 and hip surgery, he found himself addicted to pain pills. Landis credits marijuana for helping him overcome his addiction.

“The therapeutic uses for CBD can't be ignored. For years I relied on opioid pain relievers to treat my hip pain. With this hemp oil, I find that I can manage my pain and have a better quality of life. We need to give people a safer alternative,” said Landis.

An athlete's remedy

Floyd's of Leadville is claiming its new CBD oil is made entirely from pesticide-free, all-natural hemp. The soft gel capsules are said to contain 100% oil, with no preservatives or additives.

The one-a-day capsule is reported to have 20mg of CBD and 480mg of hemp oil and is reported to contain Omega 3, 6, and GLA essential fatty acids.

In addition to having relaxing effects, the CBD oil alleges to provide anti-inflammatory and anti-stress benefits as well.
