Eagle-eyed spectators at the Tour of Britain may have spotted team Madison Genesis’ new bikes. The updated 2016 Genesis Zero was debuted on Sunday and features new forks and less weight in a British-designed package.
Although visually similar to the 2015 model, the new Zero is produced from a higher grade of carbon, dropping a claimed 120g in the process to 960g. The grade in question is 30/40-ton high modulus unidirectional carbon, and as with other bikes in its range Genesis offers the same frame quality from entry level models to top-of-the-line builds.
Forks are one area where those in the know will spot a difference, with Genesis producing a much more tapered form with an aero profile, which again drops weight and reputedly increases comfort. The forks retain the same crown profile though, so can be fitted to previous years’ frames – another option for weight saving as Genesis claims a 90g saving in the new design.
Genesis claims a 90g saving in the zero’s fork:
The Zero Z.i model, as ridden by the Madison Genesis team, comes complete with full Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 groupset and PRO Vibe carbon finishing kit including handlebars, stem and Di2-compatible seat post. You can watch the Genesis Zero Z.i in action over the course of September in the Tour of Britain.
“We’ve made a succession of small changes to the frame this year that all add up to make another significant performance gain,” said Genesis’ brand director Phil Hammill. “Since last year’s hugely successful launch, the Zero has proven itself at the highest level.
“Both the team and customers appreciate its great ride characteristics and handling so we focused on weight reduction whilst refining some of the design detail. It is great to announce the bike to the world at this year’s Tour of Britain in arguably its biggest year, and we can’t wait to see how the team get on,” Hammill added.
The new range will hit the market in October 2015, and consist of three complete bikes and two framesets. At £1,799.99 the Zero Z.1 is the entry level full-build model, the Z.2 retails at £2,099.99 and the Z.i at £2,999.99 tops the range. The framesets are available at £1,099.99 and come in either Madison Genesis replica livery or raw carbon/black.
