After launching its men’s New Road line in late 2012, Giro is now pushing out the 22-piece women’s line, which ranges from cycling underwear that can be used with street clothes up through cycling-specific outerwear that doesn’t scream Lycra-clad racer.
The women’s New Road goes on sale this month in shops in North America, Europe and Asia as well as online at giro.com. As with the men’s line, the women’s New Road clothing leans on wool blends and polyester, with looser fits than traditional road attire.
The New Road baselayer has back pockets like a jersey
“Cycling is going through a period of rapid change, both as a sport and as a cultural movement, and women are leading the charge,” Giro vice president Greg Shapleigh said in a released statement. “With Giro New Road, we have created clothing that shows cycling can inspire performance apparel and streetwear as well as it does with cycling essentials like helmets and footwear.”
Many of the New Road pieces have hidden pockets in places that might feel natural to a cyclist accustomed to jersey pockets. For instance, some of the baselayers have lower-back pockets so items can be stored under a regular shirt.
