British component makers Hope Tech have revealed plans to build a £2.5m indoor velodrome that could attract overflow from the National Cycling Centre track in Manchester. The Lancashire-based company have spoken to planners about building the 200m track on their factory site in Barnoldswick, near Pendle.
Ian Weatherill, co-owner of Hope, told local paper The Craven Herald: “It’s not a commercial venture and we wouldn’t make any money on it – we’re doing it because we love cycling.”
The publication reports that German velodrome track designer Ralph Schuermann is involved. Siberian pine would be used in a £500,000 track, with the remaining funds used for the construction of a two-storey, spectator friendly building.
The track could attract users from the National Cycling Centre velodrome in Manchester – 40 miles to the south – which claims to be the busiest track in the world.
