Clothing company Impsport are best known for their custom club racing kit but they also make plain gear that you can buy off the shelf.

We've been sent samples of their Hex and Podium winter training jackets, which are new this year. The two layers are indentical in every way – material, sizing, cut and price – save for slight differences in the design. They can also be custom printed for your club.

The jackets are made from Thermocore fabric – a 100 percent polyester material that's machine washable but shouldn't be tumble dried. Each features a full length zip, a snug collar and elasticated cuffs to help keep the warmth in.

You get three rear pockets plus a zippable pouch for your keys and phone. Reflective piping across the rear and up the sides should help drivers see you in dark conditions.

We tried on the Hex for size and, while it was comfortable, felt a size M was a little generous for our 6ft, 11st 3lb (71kg) frame. Italian sizing it most certainly isn't.

It was very warm, though. We were quite toasty riding in 6 degree temperatures with a light baselayer underneath. The feel was sweaty but not clammy, unlike some more waterproof jackets we've tried. We'll likely wait until it's a few degrees cooler before using it again. At £95 it's well priced for a winter jacket.
