Interbike 2011: Lazer unveil Magneto eyewear (video)

Out with frame arms, in with magnets

Helmet maker Lazer are introducing a six strong line up of sunglasses for 2012, with the highlight that of their new Magneto innovation.

Magneto, which borrows the idea from their Magic Buckle magnetic helmet strap from last year, sees both arms of the frame cut off and replaced with two magnets. These magnets attach to a piece of steel on the helmet straps, fitting the eyewear to your face and allowing you to do away with frame arms.

They also come with optional attachable arms (for use with different helmets) and retail from $100. Apparently the magnetic clips can't be transferred to other helmets yet, so for now the specs can only be fitted to Lazer lids, specifically the Helium model. They did say they are working on a clip for 2013 that can be transferred from helmet to helmet. Expect to see the sunglasses in shops from spring next year.
