Is this the future of exercise bikes?

We don't normally cover exercise bikes here on BikeRadar, reckoning that most cyclists would rather just get out and ride or invest in an indoor trainer, but this new Ciclotte unit from Italy is just too striking to ignore.

Designed by Milan's Luca Schieppati and manufactured by Bergamo's Lamiflex group, the brief was to create a realistic-feeling bike that wouldn't look out of place in a stylish modern home.

Based around a 'dual satellite epicycloid transmission system' (no, us neither) with four gears and magnetic resistance, the Ciclotte features a smattering of carbon fibre, including on the handlebars and saddle, and a touch-screen display.

The company's previous Ciclò project – a prototype single-wheel city bike – is now part of the permanent collection at the Triennale Design Museum in Milan. We reckon the Ciclotte could soon follow. There's no word yet on pricing or availability. For more details, visit www.ciclotte.com.
