Kask goes lighter with new helmet and Koo shades

New Valegro helmet in the flesh and new half frame glasses from Koo

Team Sky has played a big part in the development of Kask’s new helmet the Valegro, which has been designed to be breathable, superlight and super comfortable. It has a massive 36 vents and is claimed to have minimal pad to head contact.

So it was good to finally see the helmet in the flesh, and armed with our trusty pocket digital scales we weighed the medium sample on show at Eurobike at 182.3g. Kask claims 180g for a small, so that’s close enough for us, and it’s certainly one of the lightest road helmets around.

Kask’s sunglasses brand KOO also unveiled a new model, the Open Cube, which follows its original Open model design.

Like the original, these Italian-made shades still have premium Zeiss lenses and retain the unique rotating arm design. The main difference is that The Open Cubes now have a half frame design, which means they have a slightly bigger lens too.

More channels have been added to the lens to improve anti-fogging qualities and the nosepiece is still adjustable. The glasses are available in both small and large, and for the first time there is an Asian fit option too.

The 30g glasses are available in 12 frame colours and with Infrared (road), clear, and red mirror (MTB) lens options. They are priced at €199 / £169.99 / $239.
