A poll undertaken by the BBC has revealed that people are scared of using their local roads for cycling.
More than half of 3,012 British adults question said they agreed with the statement, ‘It is too dangerous to cycle on the roads in my local area’. Older people (those aged 65 or over) felt more at risk than young adults (aged 18-24 years old).
Other results from the survey include the finding that more than half the adults questioned believe their employers are failing to encourage cycling, and that just one in five has been inspired to cycle more by the Tour de France.
However, those living in Yorkshire and on the Humber said that they are more likely to cycle as a result of the Tour.
